Dreamgirls, Step Up

Do not even try to tell us you aren't a big screaming showgirl. Sure, she may be hidden beneath a demure veneer of well-dressed, well-heeled businessman. JEFF VILENSKY (PRODUCER AND MANAGER) AND STEPHEN BROTEBECK (CHOREOGRAPHER AND INSTRUCTOR) LAUNCH BROADWAY BODIES, A UNIQUE FUN DANCE WORKOUT CUSTOM CHOREOGRAPHED TO THE MUSIC OF YOUR FAVORITE SHOW TUNES.

Broadway Bodies is a new high-impact, dance workout to your favorite show tunes. Incorporating basic and challenging dance movements with high impact aerobic techniques, Broadway Bodies is a fun and exciting cardio class that encourages you to sing a long while you sweat. The first 30-minutes of the class features a build-up with an exciting medley of songs (repeated each week), followed by learning and dancing a custom combination formulated around a Broadway or Hollywood musical (new combination each week).

Broadway Bodies is designed for the absolute beginner and accomplished dancer alike. While each step is slowly taught and repeated throughout the class, you will be challenged by variations to simple steps and encouraged to modify the different steps and combinations to your skill level. Most of all, Broadway Bodies is a fun fantastic workout!

Broadway Bodies offers one singular sensation 55 minute class Tuesday nights weekly at 7 pm for just $15 per class, held at Chelsea Studios, 151 West 26th Street – 6th Floor. Other services include semi-private classes, groups events for special occasions or alternative nights out, and themed Broadway Bodies Special Events.

By popular request, coming in March 2009 (the 17th and 24th), BB Special Events will feature a two-series class teaching a version of the Beyonce’ Single Ladies Dance. It’s a Beyonce’ Blowout with Basic Steps and Beyond!

Founder, Jeff Vilensky, commented “I used to leave a Musical wanting to feel the thrill and energy from dancing and singing on Broadway. Without much dance or singing talent, Broadway Bodies gives me that stage where I feel that energy and its ok to dance out of step, sing out of tune, and laugh a lot. I get a great cardio workout and I’ve never had so much fun. Plus, my dancing is improving each week, not so sure about my singing!”

Choreographer, Stephen Brotebeck, said “After being approached by Jeff, I created a class that was simple enough for the beginner, but aerobically challenging for the most seasoned of dancers.”

A close friend of Stephen’s and current cast member of the National Tour of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG took class recently and captured the class well "I love a good cardio workout, but have always hated aerobics classes. The movement feels awkward and unnatural to me, and as a dancer, I never feel like those classes utilize my full range of motion. The movement in Broadway Bodies is inspired by dance, so it is more fluid, natural, and fun!"

ABOUT THE CREATORS: Broadway Bodies is taught and choreographed by Stephen Brotebeck. Stephen’s performance credits include the 2006-07 Revival of Pippin (National Tour and Goodspeed), West Side Story (European Tour; Directed and Choreographed by Tony nominee Joey McKneely), and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. As a director and choreographer Stephen credits include regional productions of Anything Goes, State Fair, How To Succeed in Business… and All Shook Up. Stephen also directed the Toronto BC/EFA benefit featuring the casts of Pippin and Wicked.

Broadway Bodies is the ‘dream fulfilled’ of Jeff Vilensky, an Entrepreneur and Small Business Coach. Jeff wanted to experience first-hand the singing and dancing; the joy, thrill, fun and contagious energy experienced in Broadway Theatre. After coming up empty in search of a class that felt right, Jeff coached himself and turned his idea into reality. Jeff manages the business-end of Broadway Bodies.

This was a BLAST! I can't wait for next week.    -Kevin M (3/09 - Single Ladies Special Event)

Attended my first Broadway Bodies last Tuesday and had a GREAT time! The music was great, the instructor careful and encouraging and the atmosphere very friendly. The class is also a great workout -- everyone was sweating..it sure beats running on a damn treadmill.   -Jack S (1/09)

Can't wait to see the video from last night! Uptown Girl was fantastic!.   - Sara E (1/09)

On my week off in NYC I took the Broadway Bodies class. I sweated my butt off! I love a good cardio workout, but have always hated aerobics classes. The movement feels awkward and unnatural to me, and as a dancer, I never feel like those classes utilize my full range of motion. The movement in Broadway Bodies is inspired by dance, so it is more fluid, natural, and fun!.   - Molly T (2/09)

I had a great time, thanks! I'll totally be back. I was worried because I've been to "beginner" classes at Broadway Dance Center where you've got these pretentious teenagers who have been dancing all their lives. So I was glad to see it wasn't like that at all. There was no attitude, and I could actually keep up! .   - Jesse A (2/09)
